Day 1: Golden Monkey Trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
This trip will take you to trek the golden monkeys, an endemic species of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in southwestern Uganda. The trip will take you through the jungles of Mgahinga National park, consisting of bamboo and various indigenous plants like giant lobelia. Your national park guide will tell you about the national park’s history and the fauna and flora that the park holds during the journey. The golden monkey trek should take about 4-5 hours.
Complimentary Activities (Gisozi caldera walk/hike)
After the golden monkey trek, you will have an option to join a walking tour in the villages around Mgahinga Gorilla National Park or hike the Gisozi caldera. The journey will take you through community farmlands, where a Bamboo Ecotours representative will share how the local people live and farm.
Day 2: Sabyinyo Volcano Hiking Adventure
Climbing Mount Sabyinyo extinct volcano is done in Mgahinga gorilla national park. Mount Sabyinyo, or older man’s teeth in the local dialect, is one of the revered volcanoes in the chain of 8 mountains that forms the Virunga ranges of Central and Eastern Africa. The third peak of this famous volcano adjoins Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. It takes between 7 and 10 hrs to summit this extinct volcano. Because of its rugged nature, there are several wooden ladders along the hiking trail.
