Complimentary activities in the afternoon (coffee making tour, canoe trekking at Lake Mutanda)

Option I: Coffee Making Experience

In the afternoon, join the unique gorilla tracking experience with a coffee making tour. Spend part of the day with small scale farmers near Kisoro town, learning how to make coffee directly from the farm. Through the coffee tour, you will learn how to dig, weed, and harvest organic coffee in a real farming environment. You will get involved and learn about the process from seedlings to the drink/cup. You will be able to take part in picking, pounding, roasting, grinding, and drinking coffee. The skills and knowledge needed by farmers will bring a new appreciation to your coffee drinking habits. Here you take nothing but the coffee-making experience.

Option II: Canoe trekking safari at the mighty Lake Mutanda

You will embark on an incredible journey to discover the hidden gem of Lake Mutanda. We will board canoes owned and run by the local community, paddle through Lake Mutanda’s waters, and enjoy the fantastic views of the Virunga ranges and the landscapes in the area. After the canoe trek, we return to the hotel for overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking Adventure in Bwindi Forest National Park

You head northwards to Bwindi National Park immediately after breakfast to start the long-awaited gorilla trek. The gorilla trekking will begin with a briefing conducted by the national park guide and cover the basics of what to expect during the tour. It is at this point that you will be told which gorilla family to trek. Other visitors will likely join you. Each gorilla family can be visited by a maximum of eight (8) people in a day. The gorilla trek can take about 4 to 9 hours, depending on how far the gorillas are inside the forest.

Day 3: Batwa Cultural Trp in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

You will embark on the Batwa Trail experience in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. This is the day to learn about the life and culture of the Batwa forest peoples of southwestern Uganda. The Batwa Trail gives a chance to the Batwa guides to showcase their ancient lifestyle through various demonstrations such as ways to harvest herbs for medicine and wild honey; their old ways of fetching water using bamboo made “mugs,” and construction demo of grass thatched huts they used to live in. The tour ends with a cultural show by the Batwa community at the Garama cave entrance, a ceremonial ground for Batwa cultural leaders. The cave was such a symbolic place in the Batwa culture, and you will be proud to be part of this experience.
