How much is the price of a gorilla permit in Uganda in 2021 and 2022? The current price of a gorilla permit in Uganda is USD 700 compared to one gorilla trekking permit in Rwanda, which costs USD 1,500. However, note that Uganda is currently running a season discount to revive the tourism sector hugely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic. The reduced price of a gorilla permit in Uganda is $400 for trekking between December 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021. 

Where are mountain gorillas found in Uganda?

In Uganda, mountain gorilla trekking is done at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. A World Heritage site, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is home to more than half of the remaining gorillas. Bwindi National Park has more than 15 gorilla families that are open for trekking in a single day.

How many gorilla trekking sectors or gates does Bwindi National Park have?

Bwindi National Park has four sectors or tracking gates. Rushaga and Nkuringo gates are in the southern section of Bwindi National Park in the Kisoro district overlooking the Virunga mountains. Buhoma gate is in the northern area of the park in Kanungu district, and Ruhija in Rubanda district is the section in the eastern province of Bwindi National park. Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, though it has one gorilla family habituated for trekking, is another location for gorilla tracking.

Discounted Gorilla Trekking Permits

Uganda Wildlife Authority is currently running a promotion from December 1, 2020, to March 31, 2021. A gorilla trekking permit has been reduced from the regular rate of $700 to $400. Note that if for some reason you are unable to travel to Uganda after making the payment for the discounted gorilla permit, there is no refund possible. The discounted gorilla permit is non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled to a later date.
