The camp is 100% owned by the local community in Mgahinga and is located at the main entrance of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park entrance. Amajambere Iwacu Community Camp is a popular lodging option for budget travelers visiting Mgahinga gorilla national park for gorilla trekking, golden monkey tracking, and hiking the Virunga volcanoes: Mount Sabyinyo, Mount Muhavura, and Mount Gahinga.
Accommodation at the camp is provided in dormitories, bandas (self-contained and non-self-contained), and ample camping grounds for those who love camping. Amajambere Campsite is approximately 540kms south of Kampala, Uganda’s capital site. The distance between the Camp and the nearby Kisoro town is 14kms. The main means of transport from Kisoro to the camp is by car. There is no public transport available between the camp and Kisoro town.
It is possible to stay overnight at Amajambere Iwacu Community Camp and trek the gorillas at Bwindi forest national park, which is about 45kms away. One way drive from Amajambere Camp to Bwindi may take up to 2.5hrs depending on the nature of the roads that connect both sites.
