Visiting Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mutanda for Canoeing

Winners Beach at Lake Mutanda, Kisoro

The southwestern Uganda region is naturally gifted with several freshwater and lava-dammed lakes that provide a good avenue for relaxation to the tourists coming to the region, especially for mountain gorilla trekking in Bwindi and Mgahinga Gorilla National Parks. The lakes include Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale district.

Lake Mutanda, Lake Mulehe, Lake Kayumbu, and Lake Chahafi in Kisoro district. Lake Bunyonyi and Lake Mutanda are both popular for canoeing treks, swimming activities, community walks, otter viewing, and hiking the Kigezi region’s terraces.

Eco-tourism activities around the lakes are also growing where visitors can have different accommodation options, learn about the local cultures, and meeting the local people. At Bamboo Ecotours, we do our best to include different activities that can be done around the lakes in our travel itineraries.

Our suggested activities always include canoeing, swimming, snake safaris, and nature walks around the lakes. In the future, we plan to include spot fishing as another adventure activity. We hope you will also enjoy the breathtaking experiences that these lakes have to offer and the southwestern region in general.
