Bamboo Ecotours is one of the leading tour operators promoting sustainable, eco-friendly, and ethical gorilla trekking in Uganda, particularly at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, through a wide range of community tourism experiences. We are local entrepreneurs promoting ecotourism to improve communities living close to Uganda’s protected areas, such as Bwindi forest national park, famously known for mountain gorilla trekking safaris.

Bamboo Ecotours has championed sustainable and ethical gorilla tourism in Uganda. As our company name suggests, Bamboo Ecotours promotes gorilla tours with a less environmental footprint but rather more significant economic benefits to the local communities.

Bamboo Ecotours contributes directly to the welfare of families living close to the national gorilla parks of Bwindi and Mgahinga in Kisoro district, southwestern Uganda. Up to 25% of the revenue collected from gorilla tourism is invested in local initiatives, particularly schools, health centers, and community-based tourism businesses.

Development of sustainable and ecotourism in Kisoro district

Kisoro district lies in the southwestern tip of Uganda. With a population of around 300,000 people, Kisoro is one of Uganda’s most densely populated areas. Agriculture is the main economic activity in the area where most farmers depend on farming for their livelihood.

Kisoro is a top tourist destination in Uganda–the district is home to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park. Both national parks are significant ecological zones with diverse plant and animal species. Notable of these are the mountain gorillas that find a home in these two parks.
